Answer frameworks

  • STAR: Situation · Task · Action (60%, "I") · Result (numbers + learning).
  • Tell me about yourself: Present → Past → Future → why this role (60–90 s).
  • Why us: Company → Role → You.
  • Weakness: real + not fatal + what you're doing about it + proof of progress.

Story bank (prepare 8–10)

Biggest achievement · conflict · failure/mistake · tight deadline · disagreement with manager · leadership/mentoring · learning something fast · customer/stakeholder issue · going beyond your role · process improvement.

Never

Badmouth employers · lie (background checks verify) · say "no questions" · give a salary number before researching · ramble beyond 2 minutes · use only "we".

Always

Research the company · tailor examples to the JD · quantify results · ask 2–3 questions · send a thank-you email · keep your story consistent with your resume and LinkedIn.

Online checklist

Camera at eye level · light in front · headphones · notifications off · resume + JD + pitch notes open · join 5 minutes early · water nearby.

Questions to ask

90-day success · team challenges · team structure · engineering practices · growth/reviews · next steps.
