6. Probes: liveness, readiness and startup
Intermediate★ Must knowLesson 6 of 15
| Probe | Question | On failure |
|---|---|---|
| Liveness | Is the process stuck/dead? | Container restarted |
| Readiness | Can it serve traffic now? | Removed from Service endpoints (not restarted) |
| Startup | Has it finished starting? | Liveness/readiness wait until it succeeds; failure → restart |
Probe types: httpGet, tcpSocket, exec, grpc. In ASP.NET Core map separate endpoints: /health/live (process OK — don't check dependencies, or a DB blip restarts every pod) and /health/ready (dependencies like DB reachable).
