4. Amazon: Leadership Principles and the loop
Intermediate★ Must knowLesson 4 of 9
- Amazon evaluates candidates against its 16 Leadership Principles (Customer Obsession, Ownership, Invent and Simplify, Are Right A Lot, Learn and Be Curious, Hire and Develop the Best, Insist on the Highest Standards, Think Big, Bias for Action, Frugality, Earn Trust, Dive Deep, Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit, Deliver Results, Strive to be Earth's Best Employer, Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility).
- Typical SDE process: online assessment (coding + work-style questions) → interview loop (commonly 4–5 interviews) mixing coding/DSA, system design (for SDE II and above) and behavioural questions mapped to LPs. One interviewer is often a Bar Raiser — an experienced interviewer from outside the hiring team who helps maintain the hiring bar.
- Prepare 2 STAR stories per principle with metrics; expect deep follow-ups ("What exactly did you do? What data did you use?").
