6. Understanding an offer in Taiwan
BasicMediumLesson 6 of 11
- Salaries are quoted monthly (月薪) — annual pay is usually 12 months + bonuses. Many companies pay a year-end bonus (年終獎金) and some pay festival bonuses or profit sharing (員工分紅); these vary widely and aren't guaranteed by law — ask how many months were actually paid in recent years.
- Mandatory labour insurance and national health insurance — employee contributes a portion, employer the rest.
- Labour pension (new system): employer contributes at least 6% of monthly wage to your individual pension account; you may voluntarily add up to 6% (tax-deductible).
- Statutory minimum wage for 2026: NT$29,500/month (adjusted yearly; verify current figures).
- Foreign professionals: employer-sponsored work permits usually require a minimum monthly salary for white-collar roles (commonly cited as NT$47,971, but check the Ministry of Labor's current rules); the Taiwan Employment Gold Card is an alternative open work permit for qualified professionals.
- Ask about: base salary, guaranteed months, year-end bonus history, annual leave (statutory minimums based on seniority), overtime policy, remote work, probation (試用期), and relocation/visa support.
